Dear Brewers,
Brewery collaborations are all the rage these days, and Lost Rhino in Ashburn, VA is no exception….with one big exception. Their most recent release, The Wandering Belgian, is a collaboration not with another brewery, but with two local homebrewers: Mike Stein (of DCBeer.com notoriety) and myself, Joshua Hubner (of periodic email sending notoriety).
A little bit about the beer: The Wandering Belgian is a hybrid style beer; part Belgian Strong Ale (BJCP 18), part American IPA (BJCP 14B), made with pils malt, amber candi syrup, Hallertau, Columbus, Saaz and Cascade hops (kettle, hop back, and dry hop additions), and a Belgian yeast strain with prominent fruit and spice notes. The Wandering Belgian is strong and aggressive, while still being refined and subtle. Those few who’ve sampled the brew have exclaimed, “This beer could cure the future!”
Intrigued? Next Wednesday, October 17, the good folks at Smoke & Barrel will be hosting the D.C. release party for the Wandering Belgian starting at 5pm. From 5-8pm they’ll have Wandering Belgian and four other Lost Rhino brews on tap for $5 (it’s also half price sandwich night if you get hungry)!
Mike and I will be there to join you in the festivities, and we’ll buy pints for the first five DC Homebrewers to correctly guess the yeast strain. No joke.
This has been a long time in the making, and we are proud to be able to serve our beer on tap in DC. We hope you’ll join us!
Wednesday, October 17 at 5pm, Smoke & Barrel, 2471 18th St. NW.
Cheers,
Joshua Hubner
