Spirit of Free Beer XVI

Celebrating 16 years of Free Beer

Over the last decade and a half, BURP's annual Spirit of Free Beer has become one of the best, largest, and most fun competitions on the east coast.  Each year, homebrewers throughout the country submit their best beers to this competition, trying to win their share of the lavishly rich prizes for which this competition is known.   Prizes include homebrewing supplies, cases of beer, glasses, T-shirts, and a chance to brew at some of the area's finest microbreweries and brew pubs.  Get your entries in for fantastic prizes and a chance to qualify for the MCAB.

For the ninth year in a row, Spirit of Free Beer will serve as one of the Qualifying Events for the Masters Championship for Amateur Brewing (MCAB) XI. For MCAB XI, the Qualifying Styles will be BJCP Styles 1-19 and 22. Winners in these categories will qualify to enter in the MCAB national championship round. Quality judging is the hallmark of the Spirit of Free Beer and is our top priority. Quality judging means that you get the best possible feedback for your entries.  BURP recruits qualified BJCP judges. Every entry will be judged by at least two BJCP judges, and three will judge most entries. We also ensure quality judging by caring for your beers once they reach the receiving site. Beers will be stored in a refrigerated dark area and will be transported quickly, but carefully, to the judging area and be allowed time to rest. Our team of experienced stewards takes care of each beer as if it were our own.

The Spirit of Free Beer now has Online Registration . BURP recommends that you register online to capture the brewing details of your entry. This information is used to pre-format bottle labels for you as well as eliminate the paper registration form. Just print out the labels and use them "as is" with your entry.
